A bright future ahead for Powertherm

Sheffield-based business Powertherm Contract Services Ltd are a multi-discipline contractor providing various industrial services and solutions including industrial insulation, access solutions, refractory lining and more. 

Founded in 1989 with a team of 10, a lot has changed in the last 33 years for Powertherm, who now employ a team of over 430. However one thing has remained the same. Their work is underpinned by their core values and their expert teams live by the statement ‘Do it right, do it once’, focusing on delivering outstanding results for their clients.

Speaking to Paul Ashton, Managing Director, who joined Powertherm in 1990 “We have worked hard to get the business to where it is today and there have been challenging times for us, just like most businesses.”

“There have been times when we’ve sailed close to the wind and business has been tough.”

Powertherm reached a point a few years ago where they felt stuck in the same routine. They had focused heavily on bringing the next order in, completing the work on site and quickly moving onto the next project. While taking on more and more projects, they soon noticed that other areas of the business required attention. 

In 2018, Paul started coaching with Mark. Paul remembers “We were really needing help with coordinating projects, our costs were too high, revenue too low and sales were starting to struggle. It was tough, we were working a lot of hours and our sales, marketing and finance processes needed our attention.” 

“Since 2018 we have seen our revenue increase four-fold and we’re in a much better financial position.” 

“Mark has helped to challenge, provide clarity and an external perspective, backed by his many years in industry. I’ve realised how important it is for me to take a step back from the day-to-day running of the business and look at the bigger picture. We’re now in a much better position financially, have a happier and more engaged workforce and have stronger processes in place to support our day-to-day activities.” 

Powertherm have also developed their business model during that time to the point where they are now positioned to take advantage of the boom in energy security, infrastructure and renewables markets. They have become a unique one-stop shop for their global customer base, able to provide outstanding on site project delivery with ongoing inspection, service and maintenance options. 

Speaking to Paul about what’s next for Powertherm, he tells us “The future looks bright. We have a great team here at Powertherm, we are financially strong and we have ambitious growth targets for the coming 5 years that we are confident we will achieve.”
